The Road to the South Sound Classic

Published: April 6, 2026 // By Russell Moore

The Pacific Northwest track and field season doesn't just happen; it builds. It's a crescendo of dual meets, twilight invites, and regional festivals that ultimately funnel the best athletes toward the state championships in May. But before Tacoma, before Hayward Field, there is the proving ground of the mid-season major: The South Sound Classic.

As we enter the heart of April, the racing schedule condenses, the weather (sometimes) cooperates, and the qualifying marks begin to drop. Over the next four weeks, my lenses will be fixed on the crucial matchups that will define the 2026 rankings. We are tracking a massive velocity spike across the 2A, 3A, and 4A classifications, and the incoming Freshman class is already threatening established records.

Below is the official RM Photo Ops Tracking Schedule leading up to May 2nd. I've deployed dedicated Media Hubs for each of these critical events. If you're an athlete, coach, or parent, these links are your beacon. Tap in, secure your comms link, and ensure you get the drop when the galleries go live.
