2026 Fort Steilacoom Championship Saturday Preview: PSL, SPSL 2A & NPSL

On Saturday, October 24th, Fort Steilacoom will host several league championships rolled into a massive day of highly competitive racing before teams gear up for districts.

37 teams will enter on a mission to gain their entry to the Westside Classic that takes place on October 31st at Chambers Bay Golf Course.

Joshua Minner (Sr.), Gig Harbor. 15:25.2 PB, 4th at HOKA John Payne, Oct. 3.

The first varsity race of the day kicks off with the 3A PSL Boys Varsity pitting Central Kitsap, Gig Harbor, Bellarmine Prep, and Peninsula against one another in what will be an exciting way to kick off the day.

Galen Peloquin (Jr.), Gig Harbor. 15:38.4 PB, Nike Hole in the Wall, Oct. 10.

Max Dower (Sr.), Gig Harbor. 15:46.1, 13th at HOKA John Payne, Oct. 3.

Gig Harbor enters with four athletes inside the top-6: Joshua Minner (#1), Galen Peloquin (#2), Max Dower (#5), Jack Greer (#6), and Thomas Atkins. The Tides round out their top-5 with Thomas Atkins, who currently sits in the #20 spot.

Nolan Winderl (So.), Peninsula. 15:53.4 PB, 18th at HOKA John Payne, Oct. 3.

Wyatt Harding (Jr.), Peninsula. 16:01.8 PB, Nike Portland XC Invitational, Sep. 25.

Peninsula will look to have a big day. The Seahawks have found themselves flying high as the season has progressed. Led by sophomore Nolan Winderl and junior Wyatt Harding, they find themselves in a unique position late in the season to make a big statement before heading to districts. Wilson Shipp, Palmer Schumacher, and Baxter Balough round out the top-5—not a senior in sight, which makes the Seahawks that much more threatening. Can they upend the Tides?

Luke Saalfeld, Bellarmine Prep, placed 14th in the 2025 WIAA 3A State race in 15:53.10. This season he’s at 15:45.1, 26th on the 3A boys board.

Luke Saalfeld (Bellarmine Prep) enters as #3 on the league rankings with Mana Voss (Central Kitsap) alongside him sharing a time of 15:45.1. Bellarmine Prep’s Jackson Fuller sneaks into the top-10 in the #9 slot.

The Biggest Question

Mana Voss, Central Kitsap. Finishes the 2025 WIAA 3A State race in 15:09.2, a PR. His PB is 14:50.4 (Nike Hole in the Wall, Oct. 11 2025).

Mana Voss is back from a long season of being sidelined and he is casually sitting in #4 on the league board after only competing in one big race. There is no doubt that he will be back ready to compete, but at what level?

To put it into perspective, Voss’s personal best is 14:50.4, nearly a minute off his 2026 season best. Joshua Minner sits atop the league with a time of 15:25.2. If Voss shows up ready to race—he is the clear favorite. He also stands the chance of pulling a couple of the front runners out too fast—shaking up the team scores.

2A SPSL Boys

Arturo Baltazar-Magana (Sr.), Clover Park. 16:17.0 PB, 5th Annual Fall Classic Invitational, Oct. 10.

Clover Park’s Arturo Baltazar enters as the fastest boy in the league. The senior has a current personal best of 16:17.0, which was set on Oct 10th at the Fall Classic at PLU—a historically fast course. Zechariah Swift (#2) (Steilacoom) and Elija Ninnis (#3) (Clover Park) round out the top-3.

Luke Slater, Steilacoom, placed 6th at the 2025 SPSL 2A Championships in 17:44.7. This fall he ran a personal best of 17:13.1 at the 5th Annual Fall Classic Invitational on Oct. 10.

Sebastian Seefeldt, Steilacoom, placed 9th at the 2025 SPSL 2A Championships in 18:12.6. This fall he ran a personal best of 17:15.7 at Nike Portland on Sept. 26.

Steilacoom looks like the team to beat, placing 10 athletes in the top-25. Clover Park and Washington could both disrupt the party with their 4 and 5 runners having a big day. The most exciting thing about this race is that the top-10 features 5 of the 8 schools entering. It’s going to be a scrappy race.

Peninsula's Ascher Lascheck is having a standout season. The junior leads the way for the Seahawks with freshman Gisela Macsalka (#9), senior Isabella Easley (#12), junior Megan Dyer (#18), and Sofia Babbit (#24) making up the top-5.

The remainder of the top-5, Hadley Bennett (#21) and Pella Johnson (#22), will need to have a big day to find themselves at the top.

2A SPSL Girls

Eatonville’s Hannah Bieker enters holding down the top spot in the league. Her 20:59.0 gives her a comfortable gap as she nears the end of her senior XC season. There is no doubt she will look to have a big day at Fort Steilacoom to help get the Cruisers to Pasco in a couple of weeks. Jenny Lowe (#5) and Tymbre Green (#13) will need to have big days to help catapult the Cruisers. Eatonville’s 4 and 5 runners, Eden Amaidon (#32) and Maddie Pyrtek (#42), will need to be sensational as they attack the course on Saturday.

Seven teams have athletes sitting inside the top-10 heading into Saturday. Fife’s top-5 are all sitting inside the top-20 and look to be the team to beat on paper. Washington is led by Madelyn Linehan (#2) and has 3 athletes sitting inside the top-20, but 10 inside the top-30—that type of pack positioning is what wins championships.

Ruby Su, Steilacoom. 21:39.3 PB, 5th Annual Fall Classic Invitational, Oct. 10.

Steilacoom’s Rachel Su (#3) leads the way for the Sentinels and will need a big day out of her team to keep their score low and be in contention.

The Second Wave of the Day

The afternoon races kick off with the 3A NPSL Boys at 12:45pm.

Austin Messer (Sr.), Todd Beamer. Ran 16:44.2 at the 2025 NPSL Sub-District Meet (Oct. 25). This fall: 15:39.8 PB, Fort Steilacoom Invitational, Sep. 19.

Todd Beamer’s Austin Messer enters as the heavy favorite for the individual championship. The senior has had a great season setting a personal best at Fort Steilacoom on the heels of some very fast athletes. Expect a big day from the senior.

Enumclaw’s boys enter with a very dominant team. Caleb Massey (#4), Liam Harding (#5), Levi Burt (#6), Elliott Cheney (#8), and Jack Blair (#20) will look to run away with the championship. Standing in their way will be Thomas Jefferson, who is led by senior Stephen Mikrut (#2). The Raiders hold 6 spots in the top-30. While they are not the fastest team, a personal best kind of day for these athletes will place them in the running.

Victoria Blakley (#6), Zoie Klimkiewicz (#12), and Naomi Carthum (#15) round out the scoring group for the Hornets.
