The Mud Awaits: A First Look at the 2024 NXN Course

An exhausted runner in a green kit collapsed on hands and knees in the deep mud at Glendoveer Golf Course during the 2024 Nike Cross Nationals (NXN), showcasing the grueling race conditions.

The mud doesn't lie. The 2024 conditions at Glendoveer demanded everything from the athletes, turning the finish line into a scene of pure, muddy exhaustion.

The Pacific Northwest fog hung heavy, but cutting through the grey was a sea of bright Nike orange.

Inside the area, it was warm and dry. Outside, the weather had turned. I taped up my gear, threw on the rain covers, and stepped out into the elements.

Glendoveer is famous for its rolling fairways, but the rain had transformed the course. The start line was pooling; the footing was treacherous.

Faced with the mud and the cold, I had to be deliberate. I didn't shoot for volume on this day. I shot for impact. I walked away with a smaller batch of images than usual, but they are some of the strongest I have ever taken.
