An Overcast Squaxin Park Session with Brock Herrington
It was an absolute pleasure to connect with Brock Herrington for my latest free headshot session, part of my ongoing initiative to support and uplift members of the LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities.
We met at Squaxin Park on a beautifully overcast day, and as we strolled towards the beach, the tide was low, revealing the unique landscape of the Puget Sound shore. After navigating the muddy flats, we found a quiet spot to set up. While we scoped out the perfect angles, we found ourselves delightfully distracted by the local birdlife—ducks, seagulls, and herons provided a constant source of entertainment and conversation.
It was a pleasure capturing certified yoga instructor Brock Herrington in his element during our recent session at Squaxin Park. The soft, overcast light was perfect for our photos by the water.
My goal for the session was to capture Brock in his element. As a licensed and certified yoga instructor, his practice is a core part of his identity. We worked together to capture a series of yoga poses that felt authentic to him, alongside some classic headshots.
Loved capturing this classic headshot of Brock Herrington. A great photo session is all about making space for someone's genuine personality to shine through.
The Pacific Northwest provides such a stunning natural backdrop, and this park in the heart of Olympia is truly a gem. We took advantage of the scenery to get a few wide-angle shots that I’m especially proud of. It was a perfect blend of professional and personal, capturing not just what Brock does, but who he is.
A moment of pure PNW serenity with Brock Herrington. I'm a huge fan of using wide-angle shots to capture not just the person, but the feeling of the space they're in.
“Russell’s photos completely exceeded my expectations. They are absolutely stunning! He has such a gift, not only in setting up and capturing the shots but also in the way he edits them. The whole process felt effortless and fun. I never felt pressured or awkward in front of the camera. Instead, it was like spending time with a friend who happened to be taking incredible photos. Russell made me feel completely at ease, and the results are even better than I imagined.”
Thank you, Brock, for a fantastic afternoon of collaboration and conversation!
