A highly touted athlete since middle school—where he captured the world record for 12-year-old boys in the mile—Lanese’s transition to the high school ranks has been nothing short of historically disruptive.

As a freshman at Olympia High School, Lanese immediately established dominance on the grass, dropping a 15:05.4 5K to claim the No. 2 all-time cross country spot for the Bears. Capping off an unbelievable 2026 spring campaign, Lanese claimed National Freshman Records in both the 1600m and 3200m while securing runner-up finishes at the 4A State Championships against the fastest upperclassmen in Washington.
