I’m Russell (he/they), a photographer based in Olympia, WA, with a passion for capturing moments that tell stories and show the world from a different perspective. My love for photography began in high school, developing film in a darkroom long before digital cameras were the norm. Years later, my work selling products online reignited my passion for the craft. But it wasn’t until I brought my camera to one of my son’s cross-country meets that I discovered my passion for sports photography. Watching the energy and determination of athletes through my lens had me hooked, and I’ve been dedicated to documenting those moments ever since.

My mission is rooted in equity and inclusivity. I strive to ensure every athlete—whether they’re leading the pack or competing in underrepresented categories like wheelchair or ambulatory races—has their moment captured. I aim to create images that kids, families, and schools are proud to share and print, highlighting the best in everyone.

With over 14 years of experience photographing inanimate objects and two years focusing on action shots, I’ve developed a unique style by breaking traditional rules and emphasizing authenticity. I’m deeply critical of my work, discarding anything that doesn’t showcase someone at their absolute best. This commitment to quality has earned me opportunities to photograph events and connect with amazing communities.

Outside of photography, I’m an outdoor enthusiast, a proud parent of three incredible kids, I love music, and a good Fortnite session. I’ve also completed several ultra-marathons, including 50k and 50-mile races, which fuel my love for capturing the beauty and grit of outdoor sports.
